At KISO Swim School we recognize the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. With the holidays quickly approaching it can be harder to get away from a busy routine and go out to colder weather and be active. Treats that we only see at this time of year become easily accessible and the idea of turning them down seems to disappear. How do you stay fit during the holidays? For some people the answer is simply “I don’t”. However, there are many easy steps that you can take to stay happy and healthy this holiday season.
Join a team or get a buddy to keep you motivated and make you accountable. It is a lot harder to turn down exercising when you know someone is depending on you.
Another way to make yourself feel socially encourage is to post about your activities on social medias such as Facebook and Instagram. One social media platform that is built for this is Strava, a fitness app that not only tracks your activities, but allows you to like and comment on those you follow. This is a great way to stay motivated through what you’re doing and what others are doing.
At KISO Swim School we offer both our US Masters Dolphin Swim Club and our Dolphin Run Club, each meeting three times a week. Being around others brings your workouts together with your social life.
Create fitness goals for yourself for after the holidays and get started on your New Year's Resolutions. Having goals allows you to reevaluate before deciding to skip out on exercise.
When it comes to eating during the holidays, we all splurge for seasonal treats that we love to eat with holiday music and cooler weather. However, taking them in small amounts helps you reevaluate how much you are eating and you can enjoy them more frequently.
You can always prepare healthier meals and desserts for yourself and others with gluten free treats and lighter sugar, everyone's stomach will feel better. Eating Well gives multiple options on healthy holiday recipes which can be found here http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/17936/holidays-occasions/christmas/desserts/.
