This year we are switching up our regular holiday gift exchange for something that will make a greater impact. As many of you know, the hurricanes this past fall had a major effect on Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Many of the cities of PR were underwater and are still trying to rebuild.
To extend a helping hand and put a smile on a child's face, KISO Swim School is running a toy drive for the kids of a Puerto RIcan swim team - Equipo de Natacion Llaneros de Toa Baja. These children are the same as ages as within our program and have one big interest in common - swimming! With assistance from Coral del Mar Lopez, Puerto Rican swimmer and former Gator teammate of Program Director, Kristin Barton, we will be able to securely transport all toys directly to the children of this team.
The team's training facility was underwater and completely destroyed. To keep spirits high and an active routine going, the swimmers have been cross training on the beach and open water swimming to stay in shape. Away from their practices, the families are still trying to rebuild their own homes with limited food and water, and reconstruction of shelter.
So for this holiday season, we ask that you open your hearts, use a creative mind and bring a toy that will make a child's holiday a little brighter. The toy drive will be open from December 4 - 14 at the pool. All donations will be mailed out December 15th for delivery. #helppuertorico
